"Lies We Believe About God" William Paul Young
A True You Book Circle hosted by Esther Weaver
What if the greatest obstacle to experiencing God has never been His distance… but the distorted images of Him we inherited?
So many of us were taught to relate to God through fear, performance, striving, or subtle shame. Without even realizing it, we learned to see Him as disappointed, distant, hard to please, or constantly evaluating us. And somewhere along the way, many of us began protecting ourselves from the very One who has always been for us.
But what if God is better than we imagined? What if the Gospel is not about earning closeness with God… but awakening to the union, love, and belonging that has always been true in Christ?
This True You Book Circle is an invitation to gently uncover the lies we’ve believed about God — not through pressure, debate, or theological performance — but through honest conversation, curiosity, and encounter.
Over 10 weeks, we’ll move through William Paul Young's The Lies We Believe About God a few chapters at a time. This is not about arriving at perfect doctrine or pretending to have all the answers. It’s about learning to recognize the voice of Love again. It’s about allowing old lenses to fall away so we can begin to see God as He truly is — and in seeing Him more clearly, begin to see ourselves more clearly too. This is a space where you don’t have to perform, defend, fix, or filter yourself. A space to breathe. To question. To unlearn. To awaken. To be honest. To discover that God may be far kinder, safer, and more beautiful than you were taught to believe.
What You’ll Experience:
If you’ve ever sensed that your relationship with God has been shaped more by fear, pressure, or self-protection than by love — or begun to wonder if He is far kinder and safer than you were taught to believe — this may be your invitation to look again.
Hi, I'm Esther
Are you ready to break free from the weight of performance and begin enjoying the freedom in acceptance as you rediscover the True You? To start living the life that God has given you, fully alive as WHO He made you to BE, without apologies?
I know that I was. I kept asking myself, "If God is good, full of love (which He is), and He has designed me, why do I feel like I need to keep becoming someone different?" And then I realized...
It's not about “becoming” but rather about realizing who you already are and living from there!
This is not about becoming who you think you have to be but a journey of learning and growing in the revelation and understanding of who you already are!
It is a coming home experience. The journey back to the True You.
Welcome Home! Sit back, relax and enjoy seeing “the man/woman in the mirror.”
If something in you recognizes this as true, I would love for you to join us and take your seat at the table.
